Orienteering & Pic nic

“Dear Student,

The University of Rome Tor Vergata is pleased to invite you to the Orienteering & Pic nic event organized by the Welcome Office in cooperation with the Botanic Garden.

Orienteering is an exciting outdoor sport that involves walking or running whilst navigating around a course using a detailed map and sometimes a compass.  The aim is to navigate in sequence between a set of control points and decide the best route to complete the course in the quickest time. The route between “controls” is not specified, and is entirely up to the orienteer to find. The fastest path is not always the shortest one, and it can depend on the chosen route.

Orienteers will use map and compass to locate the controls points, indicated by orange and white marking flags. The winner is the team who completes the course, visiting all the flags in the established order, in the fastest time.

It doesn’t matter how young, old or fit you are, as you can run, walk or jog at your own pace.

The Orienteering event will take place at the Botanic Garden of the University of Rome Tor Vergata ( http://bio.uniroma2.it/ortobotanico/ ), on a surface of approximately 82 hectares, which makes it the biggest university Botanic Garden in Europe. It is a great sport for runners, joggers and walkers who want to improve their teamwork skills and for anyone who loves the outdoors.

At the end of the event, the botanic garden is happy to offer to all participants a homemade healthy meal.

Feel free to bring drinks and other food as you please.
